What the Vietnam FDI Q3 2026 Data Shows

The strongest signals in the 2026 data come from investors who already know the country well.

  1. Existing investors are expanding. In nine months, 948 projects already operating in Vietnam added USD 14.15 billion in new capital, up 25.1%. Companies with first-hand experience of the market are choosing to grow here.
  2. More investors are buying into Vietnamese companies. Foreign investors made 2,335 capital contributions or share purchases worth USD 6.97 billion, up 44.0%. Partnering with a local business has become a popular and often faster route into the market.
  3. Capital is being put to work steadily. Disbursement reached a five-year high at the half-year mark, again after eight months and again after nine. The Foreign Investment Agency expects the full-year figure to approach USD 30 billion.
  4. The economy is accelerating. GDP grew more than 9% in the first nine months, with third-quarter growth reaching 9.95%.

Where Foreign Investment in Vietnam Is Flowing

By sector. Manufacturing and processing attracted USD 13.38 billion, or 45.8% of new registered capital, and accounted for 82.6% of all disbursed FDI. Transport and storage came second with USD 5.14 billion, a sign that the logistics network around Vietnam’s factories is expanding quickly.

By location. Ho Chi Minh City led the country with more than USD 18.22 billion in new FDI from 1,593 projects. In the north, Thai Nguyen attracted nearly USD 5.8 billion in the first seven months alone. Opportunities are spreading well beyond the two largest cities.

By source. Investors from 79 countries and territories licensed new projects this year. Singapore led with USD 9.26 billion, followed by the Republic of Korea with USD 5.70 billion and Luxembourg with USD 4.99 billion.

By results. Foreign-invested companies generated USD 350.4 billion of Vietnam’s USD 434.3 billion in exports over nine months, or 80.7%. For a business joining them, that means proven export routes, experienced suppliers and an established international community.

A Growing Economy and an Improving Workforce

The domestic business base is expanding alongside foreign capital. Nearly 149,700 new enterprises were registered in the first nine months, with registered capital up 32.7%. That gives foreign investors a wider choice of suppliers, distributors and partners.

Skills and incomes are rising too. The share of workers with formal training qualifications reached 29.8% in the second quarter of 2026, up 0.7 percentage points in a year. Average monthly income reached VND 9.0 million, up 8.7%. A better-trained workforce supports more advanced production, and higher incomes mean a stronger consumer market.

A Simpler Path In Under the Law on Investment 2025

The policy environment is moving in the same direction. Under the Law on Investment 2025, foreign investors may now establish a company before obtaining an investment registration certificate, provided market access conditions are met. The law also sets out clearly the 20 groups of projects that require investment policy approval, giving investors more certainty from the start.

Looking further ahead, Politburo Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW sets a goal of USD 40 to 50 billion in registered foreign investment in Vietnam each year from 2026 to 2030. This year’s results show that goal is already within reach.

Making the Most of Foreign Investment in Vietnam

The investors who benefit most from this momentum usually take three steps early.

  1. Choose partners with care. A good local partner opens doors to customers, suppliers and approvals. Time spent understanding who they are and how they work pays back for years.
  2. Choose a location for growth. With new provinces competing for investment, the best site balances logistics, power, land cost and access to workers over the long term.
  3. Invest in people. Training, fair pay and a clear career path help companies build loyal, skilled teams in a market where good talent is in demand.

Looking Ahead

Record inflows, steady disbursement, a fast-growing economy and simpler entry rules all point the same way. For businesses that take the time to prepare well, the Vietnam FDI Q3 2026 picture points to a strong, stable base for growth in Asia, and the momentum shows every sign of continuing.
